Posada To Have Surgery
Jorge Posada will undergo season-ending surgery on his shoulder.
Posada, who signed a four year $52.4 million contract before the season began, started the season on the DL, made a short appearance as a DH, 1B, and backstop batting .268 with 3 home runs and 33 RBI in 51 games. His batting, slugging, and on base percentages are well below career average and as a catcher, has thrown out a smidgen over 20% of all base runners, also below league average.
His first stint on the DL was due to shoulder discomfort. He was placed in the 15-day DL and went though rehab only to show no definitive results.
Posada was placed on the DL again for discomfort and decided to opt for surgery, which is reported to be more intense than the surgery he had back in 2001.
Posada's injury consists of damage to the tendons around the labrum, but not a full rotator cuff tear.
Here are the recent DL reports for Posada from ESPN:
Yankees July 22: Placed catcher Jorge Posada on the 15-day disabled list; activated outfielder Johnny Damon from the 15-day disabled list.
Yankees June 5: Activated catcher Jorge Posada from the 15-day disabled list; optioned pitcher Dan Giese to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre of the International League (AAA).
Yankees April 29: Placed catcher Jorge Posada on the 15-day disabled list; purchased the contract of catcher Chris Stewart from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre of the International League (AAA).

Quick Catch-Up
So, it is official, I am a slacker. Been a month since my last posting, the Yankees have moved up in the power rankings, and are currently riding on a seven-game winning streak sweeping both the Astros and Padres in interleague play.
During this stretch, starter Chein-Ming Wang injured his foot while running past third to score a run. Results shoe a torn ligament connecting his first metatarsel (toe bone) to the tarsal (arch bones). He also slightly tore a tendon that help with the curvature of the arch. Brian Bruney suffered a similiar injury and is still out.
Wang, and the rest of us, hope that he can overcome this injury, and project a September return.
Yankees need to ber aggresive in the hunt for a starter to replace (temporarily of course) Wang. With Phil Hughes anf Ian Kennedy out until after the All-Star Break, the pitching has been domilished.
Mussina has stepped up his game, and Pettitte is average Pettitte.
Rumors have it that the Yankees are seeking to bring back drunkard Sidney Ponson. A.J. Burnett may be another option, but there are still two and a half months until the trade deadline.
The Yankees can afford to dump one of their 83 outfielders.
It's just weeks away from the MidSummer Classic at Yankee Stadium, so click on the All-Star logo and get some gear. Slackers....

Scapegoats and Excuses
What defines a superstar?
A superstar goes out to do his job and help his team win, playing through personal problems and injuries.
We thought Randy Johnson was a superstar.
We though that he wouldn't let things get to him.
We thought that he would help.
We thought wrong.
Randy Johnson is now blaming the New York media for his bad two years in stripes. He claims that if he sat out, the media would eat him up, if hew pitched, the media would eat him up.
Randy, the only reason why the media is after you is for two reasons. One, you started the whole situation when you first came to New York. Remember that altercation?
Second, like Alex Rodriguez, you are considered a superstar. We paid you to excel, not allow five runs per game.
Ok, you were injured.
Sit out. But wait, then the media will toss you around like an Anna Nicole Smith custody battle.
Here is a list of players that were injured during the 2006 season:
Johnny Damon, Gary Sheffield, Mike Mussina, Hideki Matsui, and Robinson Cano.
I don't recall the media attacking those players for their injuries.
But if you want to blame the media for yo poor performances, go ahead. Is it possible that you're not as good as you once were? Is it possible that you are no longer a superstar?
Don't blame the media, blame yourself.
