Hughes, A-Rod, and the AL East
After all the final at-bat wins the Yankees have done it was only a matter of time before the tables turned.
Yankees provided their trademark late inning drama against the Indians tying the game 4-4 in the ninth only to have Cleveland score one in their half. Bats were sleepy for the most part and even though Hughes was doing very well, the Indians were slightly better.
Speaking of Hughes, he has been a great addition to the line up so far. His only hiccup was against Baltimore and if you take that start away, the guy posts a 2.89 ERA with a 1.286 WHIP. He has the potential to be one of the top pitchers in baseball within the next three years
Also with the addition of Alex Rodriguez the Yankees have posted a 16-5 record which includes a nine-game win streak. This is .762 baseball ladies and gentlemen. Fluke? I think not. Every one of A-Rods home runs have actually meant something, either a game-winner, put the Yankees in the lead, or have started a rally.
May is now over, Yankees are still in first place with four months to go. Are you excited? I am.

Division Leader
With a 3-1 win over the Cleveland Indians, the Yankees are in first place in the AL East for the first time since April 16 of last year.
With this win, Mariano Rivera and Andy Pettitte set the record for most saves by a reliever and starter combination with 58.

Like It's Supposed to Be
Yankees and Red Sox fighting for the AL East crown, just like back in the day...two seasons ago. Blue Jays are falling and falling fast and the Rays just aren't last years Rays. I have already predicted the Blue Jays to finish last in the East behind Baltimore.
Sox take on the sinking Jays this weekend and the Yankees seek revenge against the Tribe. Crucial series for the Yankees as Boston will possibly take all three from Toronto.

I Don't Get it...
Yankees can not beat one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball (Phillies), yet they are putting up big numbers against one of the best teams in baseball (Rangers).

Hiatus Anyone?
Well, it's been a while since I last posted something here. Spring Training has arrived and gone with the Yankees taking the top record in the Grapefruit League. Season has started out a bit slow, but not like last season. A nice nine-game winning streak with plenty of ninth-inning drama captured old dreams of division winning teams. A-Rod came back with a bang, then a fizzle, then more banging. Anyone notice how everyone of his home runs have actually helped the Yankees this year? No more five run lead shots.
Anyway, I need to update the stats and start bring this blog back to life.
